How can I help you?

I want my blog to help people with the things I struggle with so they will not have to! Commission was not introduced to me, I had to find out what that word meant all by myself. Commission has a few different meanings, which makes me think about how broad the English language is. I had to start thinking about how many languages and dialects and words are so different all around the world. Promoting my succulent business was going to be harder than I thought. So I studied and read books that created a clearer picture for me. The way I am using commission is the verb giving an order for or authorize the production of something such as as a building, piece of equipment, or work of art.

Now that we know what I am referring to let me explain why this was so hard for me. I started making eleven dollars an hour at Red Robin for my very first job. I received tips from servers and started to expedite the food. Including tips and my paycheck I noticed my hourly rate increased because of the tips I was getting. So then I started serving and I learned money handling through this position.

When I started selling my succulent pieces I thought pricing them was difficult because how do I measure my worth and still be reasonable. The products I create are of good quality and provide a healthy lifestyle alternative. I knew people wanted the plants but I was not sure how much to price them for. Sure you want a burger and fries from Red Robin, but does buying a plant meet the same satisfaction?

To some people purchasing a plant instead of food is more probable, but I wanted to be fair. The cost of living is expensive. My mission is to hold a space for you to create or enjoy what is Taylor Made.

Before I knew what I was doing I used to make a ton of succulent planters. For who? Nobody. I was making products without any clientele. I started a vending booth to get rid of the items but that just created a pile of plants at home. I stopped creating for a while and thought long and hard if this was worth pursuing.

Before you make anything for sale unless it is for your personal enjoyment do not do it! I wasted a lot of time making things for people to just look at, so I started asking people what they wanted. "How can I help you?" The same phrase that made me a great server at a restaurant was the same exact phrase I needed to start using.

I was asked to work on gardens, store fronts, events, and yard maintenance. There was a demand and I had to supply. That is the beauty of commission. I cannot tell you how much to charge for your work because every job is different but you can build an hourly rate for yourself, daily, or the whole sum. It is all up to you!

I like receiving fifteen percent or half of the project beforehand to insure you that I will complete your item so we can both meet our needs. It is a win win almost every time. Communication is key so be thorough and make sure your client is satisfied.

Thank you to the friends and family that have asked me to create for them, it is because of you I am not making just any old thing but something specifically and handmade for you.

Commission is more than getting money up front or at the end of the production. Commission is more than a simple transaction. It is trust between you and your client. Trust that helps both sides feel reassured their needs will be met. So how can I help you?
