How I got started...

Originally my company started off as Truck Succulents "truck-succs" for short. My friend has a truck that he allowed me to sell my plants on. (And no that is not the truck in the background.) Because of this kind gesture I was able to travel to Northern California and see the world. I quit my job and started doing artisan events that turned into doing consignment. I worked with a Los Angeles store front in the Arts District. I had no idea what I was doing, I did not even have a vending license! However, my talent and supportive circle guided me to success. My curiosity for succulents and cacti truly lead me toward a career path I am currently pursuing today. Landscaping architecture plays into all of my interests and skills. I am so fortunate to have the personality to run a business.
So how did I start my own company?
I went to the bank, not for money though. I went to ask financial questions and find out the answers I was tired of looking online for. I got out there and I talked to real people about the things I did not know how to do on my own.
After realizing I was not ready to financially invest in my company because I did not have a job at the time. I reflected on the bankers wisdom and opinions too. He warned me to get my business name and license on file, but I did not do that.
I am glad too because when you first start a business you do not have a lot of money to work with. A million ideas and people supporting you but no money to show for it, so what do you do? I started believing in myself. Preparing for meetings like my life depended on it.
Currently I am working on a landscape in San Dimas, CA. Along with a few commissions and pending requests. I am set on a mobile store that will launch in 2020. I appreciate my friend for driving me everywhere I needed to be to start this business. I thank all my friends and family who purchased my work and supported me.
Pictured above is my nephew, Josiah Maeson. If he is not in school, playing football, video games, or playing with his siblings he is helping his auntie with whatever my garden needs. Here he was helping me with one of my pop up garage sales. My brother has six kids so if this one gets tired of me I have five more kids I hope like to garden. That is until I slow down and have some myself.
Gardening brings you closer to the people around you. You will want to share your knowledge, natures offerings, and more. I hope I am an example to my family and the people around me. Gardening gave me a piece of mind and the independence I was craving. It did not take much to start my own business it took everything. My time, energy, and money have gone into creating Taylor Smith Succulents. I am so proud of myself and thankful that I have the opportunity to share my gifts with the world.
